How do I limit responses in REDCap? ›

To enable this feature on a REDCap survey, navigate to the Online Designer and click on the instrument's Survey Settings. Scroll down until you see the “Survey Access” header. The first option is the feature for setting a response limit. In the textbox, enter the limit to set for the survey (e.g., 50).

If you are piping the answer *FROM* a multiple choice field (radio, drop-down), it will display the option label (not the coded data value) into the location where the field is piped, but for all other field types, it will pipe the literal data value.

For an entire form: Go to the bottom of the form you want to delete the data from and click on “Delete data for THIS FORM only” at the bottom of the page. For an entire event: Go to the Record's Home page. At the bottom of the event names there is an option to delete all data from an event (see below).

Perform more intensive data cleaning using a statistics package. During each of these steps, you will likely identify discrepancies in the data which will need to be corrected in REDCap. In the menu on the left hand side of the screen, select Data Exports, Reports, and Stats.

The 'Participant Identifier' field links the email address to the survey responses. To ensure confidentiality of the data, REDCap tracks responses by attributing it to an email address. If the Participant List → 'Participant Identifier' field is not used, the project administrators are not privy to this information.

Because of these features and on-premises storage location, REDCap is more suited to use with S4 data, and is often more suitable for research project. Qualtrics, on the other hand, offers an intuitive and easy-to-use UI. It's often best suited for small-scale research projects and surveys.

The answer is “yes” if you are working on a project that either has no human research obligations (e.g., the data are not about people). It is also “yes” if you are doing human research that will be reviewed by an IRB that is NOT associated with an institution that uses REDCap.

Using @CHARLIMIT to enforce a limit on individual characters is just as easy as implementing @WORDLIMIT in your project. Set @CHARLIMIT equal to the maximum number of characters you want in responses. REDCap will enforce this limit and display the number of characters remaining to survey respondents.

Additionally, REDCap employs “rate limiting” on its web pages, in which there is a set maximum number of web requests per minute that are allowed from a single IP address, and after that maximum is hit, the IP address of that user is permanently banned from REDCap.

To add the Stop Survey logic, click on the stop sign icon. The Stop Survey logic box will appear. Select the answer choice that should prompt the survey participant to end the survey and click Save. In this example, I want the survey participant to be prompted when they click No.
