Whichever person in the Athletic Department that decided the traditionally hottest game of the season (1st game) will be a cardinal-out game and an October game will be a white-out must get to watch the games in a temperature controlled environment. Dumb decision.

Sunny, 82 degrees with 44% humidity at 3pm per weatherunderground. That's as solid as you could ask for for the 1st game. Sign me up 10/10 times.

They're probably hoping the October game is a night game - white out will look better in the dark.

Choosing a FCS opponent for a color game is freaking weak sauce. Also stop trying to do it, Iowa State is really bad at it. The gold games are really tough because there simply isn't very much Gold/yellow ISU merch.

People just choose not to participate.
This wasn't an official "gold" game, and was done on only a few days' notice via social media.

Four days out from kickoff and pretty much all of the forecasters are calling for a high of 83-85 with little to no chance of precip.
Still gonna be pretty warm in the stadium, but for our 1st game of the year, I'd say that ain't too shabby.
Plus the 2:30 start helps. If it was 11, you'd have the entire game during the hottest part of the day. I still wish we'd have Sunday's weather on Saturday, but hopefully this won't be too bad.

iirc, that was done to honor a murdered ISU student athlete
morbid take but you're never going to have fans more motivated to dig gold apparel out of their closet than that day

It took somebody getting killed for people to wear a specific color t-shirt. That's how much ISU fans don't want to participate.

imo - a sponsor stepping up and providing fans shirts or rally towels or pom poms is only way a "color game" is ever going to actually work

I literally had to go to 4 stores in the DSM area to find a gold shirt.

I just wish Iowa State would let it go. Iowa does a phenomenal job at their color games but their fans really embraced it. We've never had that kind of buy in and they need to stop trying to force it IMO.

Eh, it's been much better the past couple years than it was a decade ago. Just need the old people to get over it & play along. I think it's fun & looks cool when even 80% of people do it, so I guess my opinion cancels out your opinion.

2:30-5 is the hottest time of day. 84 degrees for a game is not bad at all though

But the sun isn't the hottest then. The sun is overhead at 12. To me, that's the worst part of it. In general, I've been more miserable at 11:00 am games.

Hard not to at least partially agree. And like it (and Hawk fans) or not, many fans at JTS (and I have been attending since the first game in 1975) do not wear school colors and Hawk fans certainly have a longer tradition of "dressing in the colors." If you look at gameday pictures from the 70s, I'd say that maybe half are just wearing whatever clothes, hats, coats, they would wear anywhere.
Additionally, as discussed in other threads, we have had some issues with determining our own colors, so no wonder there is some confusion:
Cardinal
Gold
Red
Yellow
Blue
Silver/Gray/Anthracite
White
Black
But, I suppose it's not a really big deal one way or the other.

The data for Florida is another way of saying "it's a humid blast furnace every day."
