Yes, FromSoftware's many games are known for their enticing worlds and challenging combat. These are hallmarks of their games, and ones that Elden Ring continues to excel at. A lesser appreciated aspect of these worlds, however, is the innumerable little freaks that populate them.

Each one is outstanding for one reason or another.
Shadow of the Erdtree is packed with these curious individuals, from the roaring Igon to the sleepy Thiollier, though few are quite as mystifying as Count Ymir. His questline is one of the longer ones in the DLC, though one that is rewarding in both lore and locations.
Where To Find Manus Metyr Cathedral
To get started on Count Ymir's quest, you first have to find him! He's quite disconnected from the main story however, somewhere the game will not naturally guide you. You must find Manus Metyr Cathedral, which is the large building surrounded by water in the eastern section of the Scadu Altus region.
Reaching it, however, is a bit of a challenge. There are two primary ways of getting to the cathedral. The first is to find the underground section of Moorth that leads to a ladder into Bonny Village. From here, you can travel across the bridge and then north right up to Manus Metyr Cathedral.
The second is a whole bunch more challenging. Entering through the front door of the Shadow Keep will eventually weave you around to its eastern side, the Sunken Church District. From here you can exit Shadow Keep and continue down the hill until you reach Manus Metyr.
Once you're in the Cathedral itself, you simply walk up to Count Ymir and have a chat to begin his questline. Don't forget to chat with Jolan leaning against one of the pillars afterwards.
Keep an eye out once you reach the cathedral. Towards the back, you can find an unmarked coffin in the surrounding pond that lets you duplicate remembrances.
Where To Find The First Hallowed Ruins
Once you speak with Ymir, he offers you a gift of two items - the Hallowed Ruins map, and the Hole-Laden Necklace . The Hole-laden Necklace is a key item to be used at the Hallowed Ruins itself, while the rather aged map is intended to guide you to said ruins. It's a bit crude, though.
The ruins themselves are almost directly south of Manus Metyr Cathedral, in the Finger Ruins of Rhia in the Southern Coast region. To reach the Finger Ruins from the Cerulean Coast, you must travel directly eastwards and past some coffin ships. You'll know you're on the right path as you'll start encountering Finger Creepers.
Once you enter the ruins, you're looking to travel directly north to its centre. While looking at the map, you're aiming for the series of fingers that all curl inwards right by the very back.
Before this, however, continue travelling east past the armies of Finger Creepers to find another unmarked coffin to duplicate remembrances.
At the centre, simply interact with the hanging bell to be rewarded with the Crimson Seed Talisman +1 . Now you're free to return to Count Ymir.
Where To Find The Second Hallowed Ruins
Returning to Ymir, you can now ask him some more questions about the grand lore, and he will also offer more sorceries for your ravenous knowledge-seeking. Afterwards, he will offer you a second Hallowed Ruins map. This one is much more legible, though might still be hard to pinpoint.
If you rest at the site of grace before leaving, Ymir will leave his throne and can be found in the small graveyard to the side of the Cathedral. You can talk with him here, as well as interact with his throne to skip ahead in the quest, though you only have one chance.
This location is directly to the east of Manus Metyr Cathedral and is known as the Finger Ruins of Dheo. They're rather clearly marked on the map in fact, though reaching them is much more of a challenge.
You must first make your way to the Shadow Keep, Back Gate site of grace and go to the headless statue of Marika. You must now perform the O, Mother gesture in front of it to cause the statue to move aside, giving access to the Hinterlands region. Proceed onwards to the Finger Ruins of Dheo.
To get the O, Mother gesture, you must pick it up from a tree-like corpse near the ravine in Bonny Village.
Once you enter the Hinterlands, you will come face-to-face with a Tree Sentinel. If you've talked with Jolan prior to this point, you'll be able to summon her for the boss fight. After defeating them, another Tree Sentinel will be roaming the area though you're free to avoid this one. Continue onwards across the bridge.
In this area, you can find both the Two Fingers gesture and another Unmarked Coffin in relatively close proximity to each other. Both are found close by collapsed fingers, with the gesture found on a corpse performing the gesture in the mist.
Make your way to the very centre of the Finger Ruins as before and interact with the hanging bell to get the Cerulean Seed Talisman +1 . Head on back to Count Ymir.
Where To Find The Final Hallowed Ruins
After returning to Count Ymir, he will have even more spells and lore for you, as well as the final Hallowed Ruins map. This one looks mysteriously close to the cathedral itself, doesn't it? Well, that's because it is.
After resting at the site of grace, Ymir will have left his throne and be out in the graveyard once again. This is the same section that is skipped to if you interact with Ymir's throne after he gives you the second Hallowed Ruins map. Regardless, interact with the throne to cause it to slide back, revealing a ladder downward. Climb it to find yourself in the Finger Ruins of Miyr.
After you take a few steps forward, Swordhand of Night, Anna, will invade you. This is Jolan's sister, and she uses the Claws of Night which are both incredibly fast and deal heavy blood-loss build-up. That said, she's not exceptionally powerful so try to take her down quickly before she can land too many hits on you.
If you die to Anna after entering this area early, you will not have a chance to enter again until you've advanced Ymir's questline.
After defeating Anna, proceed forward and down to the left to find the Finger Weaver's Cookbook. Once you've picked this up, continue up to the hanging bell and interact with it as usual. You won't get a talisman this time though.
How To Beat Metyr, Mother Of Fingers
After ringing the hanging bell, you will be transported to a new area - the boss arena for Metyr, Mother of Fingers. This fight is a real spectacle. Any pair of fingers would have been surprising, but the mother of all fingers is a real surprise.
Using her extraterrestrial powers to her advantage, Metyr fires off any magic spells and uses the Microcosm atop her to shoot tracking spells and cause a massive explosion once she enters her second phase. She can also knock you back with ease with her fingers.
As such, Metyr is best fought either directly in the front or back so as to avoid her fingers. Just keep an eye on the microcosm above her, use magic-resisting items, and bring a whole bunch of fire and bleeding.
Once you defeat her, she will drop the Remembrance of the Mother of Fingers , which can be brought back to Enia in the Roundtable Hold to make either the Staff of the Great Beyond or the Gazing Finger You may now return to the cathedral by fast travelling and hope for some answers from Ymir.
How To Beat Jolan And Count Ymir
Back in Manus Metyr Cathedral, it will be ominously quiet. There will be no sign of sign of either Ymir or Jolan. Interact with Ymir's throne, however, and Jolan will invade you, chastising you all the while.
She is a similar challenge to her sister, with her sword also striking quickly and for blood-loss. Dispatch her to summon the true boss.
Ymir will appear by the throne, now known as Ymir, Mother of Fingers. He has attempted to usurp Miyr's own power to revive the child, Yuri. Ymir fights like other NPCs do, though can teleport around the cathedral with ease while summoning smaller Finger Creepers to assist him. He is quite weak to all forms of physical attacks, though highly resistant to magic. He also has a tendency to use a sorcery when you get close that knocks you back before teleporting away again.
Once he is defeated, he will drop all of his personal belongings, including the Maternal Staff . With this, Ymir's questline has been completed.
Make sure to head outside to Yuri's grave to find the Cherishing Fingers sorcery resting upon it.
Completing Jolan's Questline
There is one loose thread remaining in Jolan, however. After resting at the site of grace, Jolan can be found on the floor beside the pillar she was previously leaning against, exclaiming that with Ymir dead, the only light in her life is gone. At this point, Jolan's quest can continue in two ways -
- Offering her the Iris of Occultation
- Offering her the Iris of Grace
Giving her the Iris of Occultation will remind her of the dark she grew up in and found an odd comfort in, after which she will die. She drops her weapon, the Sword of Night , and at that point, her quest is completed.
The Iris of Occultation can be found in two locations - the basem*nt section of Fort Reprimand, and a Lesser Ulcerated Spirit in the Sunken District of Shadow Keep.
On the other hand, giving her the Iris of Grace will fill her life with light once again, at which point she will become Spirit Ashes, Swordhand of Night, Jolan. Her quest is not yet complete though.
The Iris of Grace can be found in two locations - in the church above the Tree Worship Sanctum in Shadow Keep, and in the sick room you can reach from one of the elevators in the Specimen Storehouse in the Shadow Keep.
Not far from Manus Metyr Cathedral is Rabbath's Rise, whose very summit you seemingly cannot reach from the rise itself. If you drop down from Shaman Village in the Hinterlands, however, you can reach this uppermost level, and find a body. This is Anna, Jolan's sister, turned into a puppet most likely at the hand of Ymir.
Bringing Jolan to her after acquiring her ashes will cause the pair to join, forming a new Spirit Ash of the two sisters reunited. With this, Jolan's quest is complete.
Make sure not to upgrade Jolan's spirit ashes before reuniting her with Anna as a bug currently makes the joined pair weaker as a result.
